All the keyboard shortcuts
This makes me want a keyboard with custom keycaps for Metro Map Maker - Photo by Girl with red hat / Unsplash

Do you use keyboard shortcuts in Metro Map Maker? If you do, you probably save yourself lots of time when making maps!

You might want to bookmark this page – as I add new keyboard shortcuts, I'll update this list:

  • A
  • B
  • C: Collapse / Expand menu
  • D: Draw
  • E: Erase
  • F: Flood fill
  • G: Guide
  • H: Hide/Show grid
  • I
  • J
  • K: Look
  • L: (Placeholder for Label tool, not yet built)
  • M: Move Station (with mouse)
  • N
  • O: Cycle through Station orientations (Shift+O cycles backwards)
  • P: Eyedropper
  • Q: Cycle through line styles (Shift+Q cycles backwards)
  • R: Ruler
  • S: Add/Edit Station
  • T: (Placeholder for Select tool, not yet built)
  • U
  • V
  • W: Cycle through line widths (Shift+W cycles backwards)
  • X: Toggle transfer station
  • Y: Toggle Style menu
    • Control+Y: Redo
  • Z
    • Control+Z: Undo
  • - (minus): Zoom out
  • + (plus): Zoom in
  • [ and ] (square brackets): Move the menu to the left/right side of the screen
  • Arrow Keys: Move the map
    • While the Station menu is active and a station is selected: Move your selected station. (You can move a station diagonally by pressing both keys at once).
  • Number Keys: Select colors 1-10
    • Shift+Number Keys: Select colors 11-20
    • Alt+Number Keys: Select colors 21-30

Which ones do you use most often? I use D and E a lot – E to erase any stray marks, and then pressing D once I'm ready to draw again will use my most-recently-used line color, width, and style.
