Sneak preview: Eyedropper

Sneak preview: Eyedropper. In this image, hovering over the red line shows that line's color in the Eyedropper button.

In between adding new features to Metro Map Maker, I like to make fantasy maps too – and as I'm making new maps, I often think of new features.

Often, these new feature ideas aren't major changes – they're small, quality of life improvements to make Metro Map Maker a little easier to use. Today's post is a good example of this.

In version 7.1, I'm adding an Eyedropper tool (Keyboard Shortcut: P), which will allow you to "pick up" a color from your map.

The Eyedropper tool works similarly to how it works in other image editing tools, but in Metro Map Maker it also "picks up" a line's width and style in addition to the color.

When the Eyedropper tool is active, hovering over a line will show that line's color in the Eyedropper button. If you click a line when the Eyedropper tool is active, you will immediately switch to the Draw tool, using that line's color, width, and style.

Here's a brief demonstration of the Eyedropper tool:

Notice in the video that I never open the Draw menu to change the line's color, width, or style – the Eyedropper does it all.

In my tests, this made it so much quicker and easier to keep drawing. In fact, I hardly opened my Draw menu unless I was adding a new color or style!

I hope you'll like the Eyedropper Tool – I've certainly been enjoying using it in my test maps. Be sure to subscribe (it's free!) to get notified when the Eyedropper tool is released:
