Sneak preview: More keyboard shortcuts
In between adding new features to Metro Map Maker, I make fantasy maps too – and as I'm making new maps, I often think of new features.
Often, these new feature ideas aren't major changes – they're small, quality of life improvements to make Metro Map Maker a little easier to use. Today's post is a good example of this.
Version 7 added mix-and-match line styles and widths. You can cycle through line widths with keyboard shortcut W and through line styles with keyboard shortcut Q.
That's useful, but to switch from line width 12.5% to 25%, I would have to press W several times. I thought it would be a lot easier to be able to cycle backward, so I added a new keyboard shortcut for that and for line styles:
- You can cycle backward through line widths by pressing Shift+W.
- You can cycle backward through line styles by pressing Shift+Q.
While working on this, I though it would be good to make it easier to cycle through the station options with keyboard shortcuts too:
- When the Station menu is open, you can cycle through label orientations by pressing O, or backwards by pressing Shift+O.
- When the Station menu is open, you can cycle through station styles by pressing Y, or backwards by pressing Shift+Y.
- When the Station menu is open, you can toggle whether your station is a transfer station by pressing X.
Sometimes, it's the little changes like this that can make it so much quicker and easier to make maps.
I hope you'll like these new shortcuts – they've certainly made it quicker for me when I'm making maps. Be sure to subscribe (it's free!) to get notified when version 7.1 is released:
